AWS may ask you to verify your identity when you request access to certain products, features, or programs. We only use your verification data to confirm who you are. If you choose not to verify your identity, your existing AWS access is preserved — only the specific request that triggered verification will not be granted.
Overview
When you request access to certain product, features, or programs, we may ask you to verify your identity and will notify you in one of three ways: in the AWS Console, in the Service Quotas API response, or by email from AWS. You may also receive the notice as a correspondence on an AWS Support case you opened. Once you start the verification process, you have 1 hour to complete it. We use Trulioo to process your identity check, and only use the verification data to confirm who you are. For more information, refer to the FAQs below.
What you'll need
You will need a valid government-issued photo ID and a device with a camera to capture an image of your ID and a selfie.
The accepted ID types:
- Passport
- Driver's license
- National ID card
Your ID must:
- Be issued by your country's government.
- Be current.
- Be undamaged, unaltered, and uncropped.
- Be clearly legible and include your full name, date of birth, and an unobstructed portrait photo.
Submission:
After you complete verification, you will receive notice whether the verification passed or failed. If the verification passed, you will receive access to the requested resources within minutes. If the verification failed, the notice will contain the reason why, whether retries are available, and the next steps. If retries are not available, you won't have access to the requested resources, but your current access remains unchanged — nothing is removed from what you already have.
Frequently asked questions
Q: Why is AWS asking me to verify my identity?
AWS may ask you to verify your identity when you request access to specific resources — for example, expanded access to Amazon Bedrock models or Activate credits. Once verified, you gain access to the requested resource.
Q: I received an email to verify my identity. Is this really from AWS?
AWS will only ask you to verify your identity when you request access to certain products, features, or programs. AWS will never ask you to email or reply with your ID or selfie — verification always happens through a secure Trulioo-hosted link. If you are unsure whether a request is legitimate, contact AWS Support to confirm and reference the case ID in the email.
Q: How do I know if I need to verify my identity?
After you make a request that requires identity verification, you'll be notified in one of three ways: in the AWS Console, in the Service Quotas API response, or by email from AWS. You may also receive the notice as a correspondence on an AWS Support case you opened.
Q: Am I required to verify my identity? What if I don't want to verify my identity?
You are not required to verify your identity. If you prefer not to verify, your existing AWS access is preserved — nothing is removed from what you already have — but the specific request that triggered the verification will not be granted. If you have questions, please contact AWS Support.
Q: What are you doing with the identity verification data?
We use the data to verify your identity. AWS handles your personal information as described in the AWS Privacy Notice.
Q: How long does verification take?
Once you upload the required materials, verification takes less than 1 minute.
Q: What happens if my verification link expires?
If your verification link expires, you won't be able to complete verification through that link. Submit a new request to receive a new link. If you have questions, contact AWS Support and reference the case ID.
Q: What happens if my verification is successful?
You will receive a confirmation email and access to the requested resources. It can take time for a completed verification to appear. If you still appear restricted, confirm that you are using the account that completed verification and refresh the page. If you still can't access the resource, please contact AWS Support.
Q: What happens if my verification doesn't pass?
Verification can fail to pass for a few reasons: image quality issues, an expired or unsupported ID, a mismatch between the information you provided and your ID, or a technical problem during submission. You'll receive a notice explaining the reason. If retries are available, the notice will also explain the next steps. If retries are not available, you won't receive access to the resources you requested, but your existing AWS access is preserved.
Q: Is verification available in my country and language?
Identity verification is currently supported across a broad set of countries and languages via our identity verification provider. If you encounter language or geographic coverage issues that prevent you from verifying, please contact AWS Support.
