The launch of Amazon Q Developer as a preview by Amazon Web Services (AWS) significantly enhanced my interaction with AWS services, enabling me to leverage their full potential daily. This generative artificial intelligence (AI)–powered assistant, trained on 17 years of AWS knowledge and experience, assists in building applications on AWS, researching best practices, troubleshooting, and error resolution.

Today, we're thrilled to announce the general availability of Amazon Q Developer, featuring several updates and new capabilities.

Amazon Q Developer now possesses knowledge of your AWS account resources (in preview mode). This feature facilitates understanding and management of your cloud infrastructure by allowing you to list and describe AWS resources using natural language prompts. By navigating to the AWS Management Console and selecting the Amazon Q Developer icon, you can access this capability. With this, you can effortlessly list your resources across various AWS Regions and even generate AWS CLI commands for immediate execution.

Another new capability is Amazon Q Developer's ability to provide insights into your AWS costs (in preview mode). By asking natural language questions, you can obtain information on cost-related metrics retrieved and analyzed from AWS Cost Explorer.

Additionally, an Amazon Q integrated development environment (IDE) extension has been released for Visual Studio Code and JetBrains IDEs. After installation, existing users need to update the AWS Toolkit extension. Moreover, two advanced capabilities of Amazon Q Developer in IDE, namely Developer Agent for software development and Developer Agent for code transformation, are now accessible for free with AWS Builder ID.

Furthermore, the Developer Agent for code transformation has undergone improvements, offering detailed transformation plans tailored to your applications' needs, including JDK version identification, dependency upgrades, and automated replacements of deprecated code.

These enhancements underscore Amazon Q Developer's commitment to streamlining software development processes and empowering users to leverage AWS services effectively.
