Hello Amazon GameLift Devs,

We are excited to announce that Amazon GameLift now supports the latest generation of compute-optimized AWS Graviton instances. Graviton-based instances are powered by the latest AWS Graviton3 processors and deliver up to 25% higher performance over Graviton2 processors. Amazon GameLift now supports eight new instance families, including C7g, which enables the best price performance for compute-intensive gaming workloads. With this release, Amazon GameLift now supports 68 instance families across 23 regions. The following are the new Graviton instance families added:

  • Graviton2-based instances: c6g, c6gn, r6g, m6g, g5g
  • Graviton3-based instances: c7g, r7g, m7g

Customer Value

  • Best price performance: AWS Graviton-based instances deliver up to 40% better price performance over comparable current generation x86-based instances for a broad spectrum of workloads including gaming workloads.
  • Build for Unreal Engine: Unreal Engine is one of the most popular and advanced real-time 3D creation tools among game developers and ARM64-based Graviton3 processors are designed to make compiling game server code with Unreal easier and straightforward compared to x86-based instances.
  • Best Performance per watt of energy: To help customers reduce their carbon footprint, AWS Graviton-based instances use up to 60% less energy for the same performance than comparable EC2 instances.

Amazon GameLift customers will now be able to increase their performance and cost savings using AWS Graviton-based instances. To get started, check out the Release Notes.

Please Note: Graviton instances run on linux OS and arm64-based architecture. There is no out-of-the-box support for Mono installation on Amazon Linux 2023 (AL2023) / Amazon Linux 2 (AL2), arm-based AMIs since the yum repository which Amazon Linux is based on, does not support Mono for AMD architectures through the package manager. Hence, at this time Amazon GameLift does not have support for this by default on Graviton instances.

Thank you, Sachin Gupta, PM, Amazon GameLift
