Amazon RDS for MySQL major version 5.7 end of standard support announcement

MySQL community plans to deprecate MySQL 5.7 in October, 2023 [1] and will not provide any security patches or bug fixes after October, 2023. Following community timelines, Amazon RDS will end standard support of MySQL major version 5.7 on 29 February, 2024.

We recommend that you take action and upgrade your MySQL databases (DB) running major version 5.7 to major version 8.0 before RDS end of standard support in February, 2024. MySQL 8.0 offers new query functionality, enhancements for better performance, reliability, security and manageability. To learn more about the benefits of MySQL 8.0, refer to ‘Amazon RDS for MySQL 8.0 Announcement’ [2]

We strongly recommend that you upgrade your RDS for MySQL 5.7 DB instances as soon as possible, before February 29, 2024. You may consider using Amazon Blue/Green Deployments to minimize risk and downtime during your MySQL 5.7 to MySQL 8.0 upgrade.

The upgrade timeline for RDS for MySQL 5.7 instances will be as follows: RDS will upgrade your MySQL 5.7 database to MySQL 8.0 during a scheduled maintenance window between March 1, 2024 00:00:01 UTC and March 31, 2024 00:00:01 UTC. On March 31, 2024 00:00:01 AM UTC, any MySQL 5.7 databases that remain will be automatically upgraded to version 8.0 regardless of instances’ scheduled maintenance window.
