Amazon GameLift releases an update to the public API to now allow adding game properties to an existing game session. Customers can now add and update game session properties such as a map or difficulty level after a game session is created, without needing to create a new game session.

We’re excited to announce a new feature for updating game session properties of an existing game session with an update to the UpdateGameSession public API. With this release, customers can now add or update the game properties of a game session that's in progress. Previously, users had to create a new game session to change the game properties.

A common request from game developers using Amazon GameLift has been to update game properties after a game session is created. Examples of game properties are game maps or session difficulty levels, which are commonly updated while the game session is active. Hence, we updated the existing UpdateGameSession API, to now include an optional GameProperties object to enable game developers to pass custom game properties into active game sessions. Customers can also search for game sessions with updated game properties with the SearchGameSessions public API.

Support for adding and updating game session properties of active game sessions is available in all Amazon GameLift supported AWS Regions and fleet locations—this includes, US East (Ohio and N. Virginia), US West (N. California and Oregon), Africa (Cape Town), Asia Pacific (Hong Kong, Mumbai, Seoul, Singapore, Sydney, Osaka, and Tokyo), Canada (Central), Europe (Frankfurt, Ireland, London, Milan, Paris, and Stockholm), Middle East (Bahrain), South America (São Paulo), AWS China (Beijing) Region, operated by Sinnet, and AWS China (Ningxia) Region, operated by NWCD.
