Amazon GameLift launches Queue Location Override, a new feature to allow dynamically updating game session placement location for every game session placement request, overriding the static location order defined in your Amazon GameLift Queue.
Hello Game Developers,
We are excited to introduce Queue Location Override, a new feature designed to give game developers greater flexibility and control over game session placements. Starting today, you can provide a custom list of ordered locations to use when requesting game session placement with a queue (see StartGameSessionPlacement API). This list overrides the queue's static location order for a single placement request.
Game developers have long relied on the Amazon GameLift Queue resource to manage game session placement requests across multiple fleets. Queues prioritize placements to provide the best network performance at optimized cost, based on defined criteria like latency and geographic location. In some cases, game developers need to update location priorities for specific placement requests. Until now, developers could only provide location order as a static property for a queue. This limited flexibility in scenarios where dynamic conditions, such as player locations, fleet load, or server health, change rapidly.
With this launch, customers can pass in a prioritized list of queue destination locations as a parameter of the StartGameSessionPlacement API Request.
Customer Benefits:
- Dynamic and Player-Centric Placement: Game developers can supply location lists dynamically based on real-time factors , such as geographic distribution of players in a session. This ensures that the best possible fleet or region is chosen for the session, leading to a better player experience.
- Greater Flexibility for custom scenarios: Game developers can specify event based overrides, for example, for special events or tournaments, developers could define a specific set of regions or fleets without modifying the queue itself, simplifying operations
With Queue Location Override, Amazon GameLift makes game session placement more efficient - empowering game developers to build the best gaming experience at scale.
