To run Kubernetes in production, the best practice is to deploy operational software for monitoring, security, storage, and networking, which many users select from a range of ISVs. In this session, learn how you can build production-ready clusters with observability tools prebuilt in the Amazon EKS cluster using automation tools like Terraform or AWS CloudFormation.

6:00 pm - Optimize cost and improve scalability with Karpenter on Kubernetes Karpenter is an open source auto scaling solution that simplifies Kubernetes by launching the right compute resources for the application workloads while responding quickly and automatically to changes in application load and resource requirements. In this session, learn how Karpenter can lower compute costs by replacing expensive nodes with cheaper alternatives, removing under-utilized nodes and consolidating workloads into more efficient compute resources. Hear how Karpenter can significantly improve efficiency and the cost of running workloads on a given cluster. It requires very little to no configuration, providing a better operational experience for cluster administrators.

6:00 pm - Building a secure software factory on AWS using Amazon EKS Modern information systems within regulated environments need to develop software with security at the forefront. Increasingly, organizations are adopting DevSecOps and secure software factory patterns to improve the security of their software supply chains. Organizations across the globe are modernizing their software practices to deliver secure, resilient software at the speed of relevance. In this session, learn about security in software supply chains and how to build a secure software factory that aligns with DevSecOps initiatives. 6:00 pm - Modernize data processing with Spark on Amazon EKS Spark has become the go-to data processing tool because of its speed, scalability, and community support. Since Spark 2.3 introduced support for Kubernetes, users have been moving their Spark jobs to Kubernetes to create more reliable, scalable, resource-efficient data processing platforms. This session demonstrates how to deploy and scale Spark on an Amazon EKS cluster using Spark Operator to manage Spark jobs, Apache YuniKorn for batch scheduling, and Karpenter for autoscaling to create a reliable, scalable, cost-efficient data processing environment on Kubernetes.

2:00 pm - Implementing disaster recovery for Amazon EKS clusters In this session, see a demo of how to implement different DR strategies for Amazon EKS clusters: backup/restore, pilot light, warm standby, and multi-site active/active. The demo showcases how a controller can be built for the DR deployment pipeline that will keep the primary and DR clusters synchronized. The solution shows how to use Valero for backup and restore strategies, and how Argo CD can be implemented for other DR strategies. The session also focuses on AWS Systems Manager OpsCenter to automate remediation of DR issues.

2:00 pm - CDK8s: New features for easy cloud infrastructure utilization CDK8s provides user-friendly APIs in well-known programming languages for creating Kubernetes manifests. In this session, explore a novel feature that enables CDK8s charts to be transformed into formats compatible with Helm – a widely used CNCF tool for Kubernetes application management. This integration allows manifest deployment via Helm. The demo in this session also illustrates the streamlined process of importing Helm charts into CDK8s, automating the synthesis of manifests. The demo reveals how CDK8s integrates the cloud infrastructure into Kubernetes applications. Resources defined in infrastructure provisioning applications (like AWS CDK or CDKTF) seamlessly merge with CDK8s, resolving values during manifest synthesis after infrastructure deployment.
