RDS Recent events bug

Question

Hi. A couple weeks ago the RDS reached the max space it had an it triggered a resize, all this normal, no complaints there. The problem is that AFTER the resize, with 200GB FREE on the RDS the "recent event" keeps saying "Storage size 300 GiB is approaching the maximum storage threshold 350 GiB. Increase the maximum storage threshold." even though I have 200GB free. The RDS isn't reaching to 350, not even close. What can I do to stop this event from appearing over and over again? I'm getting this event 20 times a day and it's messing with my real alarms.

Adding to the above comments from the re:Post Agent, as mentioned in the below AWS Documentation and Re:Post Article, the event message is about setting maximum storage threshold to at least 26% more of the current allocated storage to avoid receiving the event notification that "the storage size is approaching the maximum storage threshold."

The event you're seeing is likely related to how RDS monitors storage thresholds and triggers notifications. Based on RDS event monitoring, there are specific events that trigger when storage capacity reaches certain thresholds.

The issue you're experiencing appears to be related to the maximum storage threshold setting for autoscaling, not your current free storage. When you have storage autoscaling enabled, RDS monitors both your current allocated storage AND the maximum storage threshold you've configured. The event is warning that your current allocated storage (300 GiB) is approaching your configured maximum threshold (350 GiB), which would limit future autoscaling operations.

To resolve this and stop the recurring notifications:

1. **Increase your maximum storage threshold** - If you have storage autoscaling enabled, increase the maximum storage threshold setting to provide more headroom. For example, if your current allocated storage is 300 GiB and your maximum is 350 GiB, consider increasing the maximum to 500 GiB or higher.

2. **Review your autoscaling configuration** - Check your RDS instance's storage autoscaling settings in the console to confirm the maximum storage threshold value and adjust it accordingly.

The event isn't about your current free space (200 GB), but rather about the proximity of your allocated storage to the maximum threshold you've set for autoscaling. By increasing that maximum threshold, you'll give the autoscaling feature more room to operate and the notifications should stop.
