When an AWS account has an overdue payment that's been cleared, there can sometimes be a delay before all services are fully restored to normal operation. This is a known issue that some AWS customers face.
Here's what typically happens in such cases:
-
When an account is suspended due to non-payment, making the payment is the first step, but it doesn't automatically reactivate the account.
-
Account reactivation often requires manual intervention from the AWS Support team, which can take some time, usually up to 24 hours or more in some cases.
-
The delay is often due to the need for AWS to verify the payment and ensure there are no other outstanding issues with the account.
While waiting for your account to be reactivated, here are some steps you can take:
-
Open a support case under the "Account and billing" category. This type of support is available even for suspended accounts.
-
In your support case, clearly explain that you've made the payment and provide any relevant payment confirmation details or transaction IDs.
-
Keep checking your email, including spam folders, for any communications from AWS regarding your account status.
-
Ensure all your contact information in the AWS account is up-to-date.
-
If you have an AWS Account Manager or are working with an AWS Partner, consider reaching out to them for assistance in escalating the issue internally.
If your EC2 instances are showing as "running" in the dashboard but are still inaccessible, you might need to take additional steps once your account is reactivated:
- Perform a full stop and start (not just reboot) of your instances.
- Check your security group settings to ensure they allow the necessary inbound traffic.
- Verify your network configuration, including route tables and internet gateway connections.
Continue to engage with AWS Support through your open case, as they are the primary channel for resolving this issue. Be persistent but patient, and don't hesitate to request updates if you haven't received a response within a reasonable timeframe.
