How do I perform common DBA tasks for Amazon RDS DB instances?

Short description

Because Amazon RDS delivers a managed service experience, it does not provide shell access to DB instances. For this reason, RDS restricts access to certain system procedures and tables that require advanced privileges. See the following examples of some common tasks that you can't run in RDS by using standard commands:

• Bringing a database online when using Amazon RDS for SQL Server.
• Dropping a DB in a mirrored instance when using Amazon RDS for SQL Server.
• Killing an active session or query when using Amazon RDS for MySQL, Amazon Aurora MySQL, or MariaDB.
• Switching online log files when using Amazon RDS for Oracle.
