**Prerequisite:** Make sure that your AWS Identity and Access Management (IAM) user or role has the required permissions to use the runbook. For more information, see the **Required IAM permissions** section of [AWSSupport-RestoreEC2InstanceFromSnapshot](https://docs.aws.amazon.com/systems-manager-automation-runbooks/latest/userguide/automation-awssupport-restoreec2instancefromsnapshot.html).

### Run the Systems Manager automation runbook

1. Open the [AWS Systems Manager console](https://console.aws.amazon.com/systems-manager/).
2. In the navigation pane, choose **Documents**.
3. In the search bar, enter **RestoreEC2InstanceFromSnapshot**.
4. Choose the **AWSSupport-RestoreEC2InstanceFromSnapshot** document.
5. Choose **Execute automation**.
6. Choose **Execute**.  
    **Note:** For a list of the steps that the runbook performs, see the **Document steps** section of [AWSSupport-RestoreEC2InstanceFromSnapshot](https://docs.aws.amazon.com/systems-manager-automation-runbooks/latest/userguide/automation-awssupport-restoreec2instancefromsnapshot.html).
7. After the automation completes, review the detailed results in the **Outputs** section.
