Being charged for stopped/terminated instances

0

I don't have any running EC2 instances but my charges keeps going up. From the billing window I can see that I am being charged for EBS on Ohio region but when I checked that region I don't see any EBS volume or Snapshot. Why is my charges keeps increasing for terminated resources? I have included some dashboard screenshot for better picture of what I see in my dashboard. Please help me understand this.

For EC2:

  1. Go to Cost Explorer -> Choose Date Range in right pane
  2. Granularity -> Daily
  3. Dimension -> Instance Type
  4. Service -> EC2

Repeat same by changing dimension to region. This would show you what are the things, that are getting billed under AWS EC2 and when were those billed. You'll get to know the exact date, it may be the case that you'd have terminated the instance but charge is for prior dates when instance was running.

For EBS:

  1. Go to Cost Explorer -> Choose Date Range in right pane
  2. Granularity -> Daily
  3. Dimension -> Usage Type
  4. Service -> EC2-Other

Important:

  • If you have ec2 instance stopped but not terminated, you'll see some charge(few cents) for EBS volume.
  • Also, check if there is any EIPs which you missed to release.

Refer Why am I being charged for Amazon EC2 when all my instances were terminated?

If you don't find any clue for these charges, I'd suggest you to log a support case under Account and billing category, AWS support would be able to assist you and would help you to get a resolution if at all, these are not legitimate charges.

Hope it helps.

  • What is EIP?

  • Sorry, I should have mentioned it at first place only, EIP stands for Elastic IP Address.

Please check all instances that are properly terminated and the same case on EBS. Also, check global view of all services that are running.

You can also check the related billed resources after termination with CUR report data.
