ALB Best Practice

0

Customer is testing two different applications. One is portal (with multiple ports) and one is API server (multiple ports also). Should we recommend for them to use a single ALB or should we tell them to create a separate one for the other application? Plan also in the future is to utilise ASG per app. What's the best practice? Any reference or guide on this, please? Thank you.

In my opinion, this depends on your architecture but also, the traffic that is receiving both applications. Check your load requests. If you can go with a single ALB, I would go for this option. You can use WAF and multiple SSL certificates and you save the cost (and maintenance) to use a second ALB.

Using ALB, the ASG will be associate to a TG with their own health check: https://docs.aws.amazon.com/elasticloadbalancing/latest/application/load-balancer-target-groups.html
