How can I connect Lightsail instance to internet for s/w updates?

0

Hi,
since I started using Lightsail content delivery network (CDN) , my instance (Windows Server) lost access to the internet.
How can I connect from my instance to internet for the software updates?

thank you!

The Lightsail CDN has nothing to do with your instance's ability to access the internet.

The CDN access your instance only, your instance does not access the CDN (at least by default).

Hi,

on my instance I have separate software installed e.g. MS Visual Studio. I need to install the latest updates for it.

My problem is that I can't access internet from my instance because my instance is on private subnet (right?).
I do remember that I have had access to internet from my instance before I added LightSail CDN.

My question is this: how to install software updates if my instance does not have access to internet?

thank you!

Your instance is full access to the internet, unless you'e changed something.

Attaching a CDN to your instance does NOTHING to the instances outbound internet access.

It just acts as a caching front end to the internet accessing your instances web services.

David,
in this case, how what can I do to troubleshoot?
when I RDP to my instance, I'm not able to access internet via browser.

I tried

  1. to turn on/off Windows Defender Firewall with no effect
  2. When I go to Control Panel -> Networking , there are no issues; it shows that I'm connected to the Network.
  3. When I open cmd, I'm able to ping www.google.com

But I'm not able to access internet via browser.

thank you

What happens when you try to access a web. site using the browser?

What error message are you getting?

If you can ping google,, then your internet access is fine.

When I open the browse and type http://www.google.com , the page stays empty, nothing happens;
and at the bottom the message appears: <The webpage is not responding. Recover page?>

Sounds like you have a policy setting on your windows instance that's blocking your ability to browse web pages.

I haven't worked with Windows server in a long time but, IIRC, there are default policies that automatically restrict web page access.

it looks like windows updates were pushed but server has not been rebooted.
I copied over Chrome install file but was not able to access internet either.
But...
Once I rebooted the machine I was able to browse. that's all I did.
