AWS Blue age L3 workshop - CBSTM03A file transformation issue

0

During workshop, I ended up having a problem executing CREASTMT programe at step https://catalog.us-east-1.prod.workshops.aws/workshops/bf71c0bc-6d8a-4d04-9c10-ab479f7f0e37/en-US/execution/test/batch.

Looking up why, i saw some problems in the corresponding generated Java file:

                ctx.getStmtFile().getFdStmtfileRecReference().setBytes(ctx.getStatementLines().getStLine15Reference().getBytes());
		stmtFile.write(ctx.getStmtFile().getFdStmtfileRecReference());
		ctx.getHtmlLines().setHtmlLtrs(true);

		/*
		FIXME: WRITE FD-HTMLFILE-REC FROM HTML-FIXED-LN */
		BluageUtils.unsupported();
		ctx.getHtmlLines().setHtmlL10(true);

		/*
		FIXME: WRITE FD-HTMLFILE-REC FROM HTML-FIXED-LN */
		BluageUtils.unsupported();
		ctx.getHtmlLines().setHtmlL75(true);

Going back to the transformation center, I noticed 2 warning issues on that file:

RuntimeException: No Context getter for file "HTML-FILE"

How can this issue be resolved ?

  • Yes, I already did that. I checked the solution and the code is the same as presented.

    But I also deleted some "REV0001" at the beginning of the file because they were causing troubles in the generated Java file (they were "warnings" during the Transform Step).

    After this fix, i got a step futher.

The issue you're experiencing with the CBSTM03A file transformation in the AWS BluAge L3 workshop appears to be related to file encoding and possibly incomplete transformation of certain COBOL statements.

To resolve this issue, you can try the following steps:

  1. First, address the file encoding problem. In the Transform step of the transformation center, add a new Metadata section with these details:
    • Type: File
    • Name: */
    • Properties: Select the 'encoding' property
    • Order: Move it to the last position
    • Update the property value to 'UTF-8' (make sure to include the hyphen)

This should help resolve any character encoding issues that might be causing problems during the transformation process.

  1. For the specific COBOL statements that aren't being properly transformed (like the WRITE statements for FD-HTMLFILE-REC), you may need to review the original COBOL code and ensure that all necessary file definitions and statements are properly included and recognized by the transformation tool.

  2. If the problem persists, you might need to manually adjust the generated Java code to properly handle the HTML file operations. This could involve replacing the "FIXME" comments and "BluageUtils.unsupported()" calls with appropriate Java code to write to the HTML file.

  3. Consider re-running the classification step in your codebase project, as this might help reset file types and resolve any metadata inconsistencies that could be causing issues during the transformation process.

If these steps don't fully resolve the issue, you may need to reach out to the AWS BluAge support team or the workshop facilitators for more specific guidance tailored to your exact workshop environment and version.

Did you transform the code with the specified Blu Age Transformation Engine version 4.2.0 (Official version) ? https://catalog.us-east-1.prod.workshops.aws/workshops/bf71c0bc-6d8a-4d04-9c10-ab479f7f0e37/en-US/introduction/versions
