Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.9 ELS

1

Hello,

Customer is using RHEL 7.9 image purchased from AWS marketplace. As per the Redhat website below, Maintenance Support for RHEL ends June 30, 2024, while the Extended life cycle support (ELS) add-on ends on June 30, 2028: https://access.redhat.com/support/policy/updates/errata#Maintenance_Support_2_Phase

Customer would like to know if they can continue using their current RHEL 7.9 with ELS add-on benefits after June 30,2024. If not what would be the process to include the ELS benefits?

Below AWS document has information about RHEL 6 ELS, but not for RHEL 7.9 with ELS: https://aws.amazon.com/partners/redhat/faqs/

Can someone point me to similar information about RHEL 7.9 ? or provide more information to help the customer.

Thanks, Prashant Gaikwad

I am very interested in this question. Does this mean that the ELS add-on for RHEL 7 is not available in AWS? Is the only way to bring in a license with BYOS instead of using Marketplace AMI?

  • Currently, we do not have a "Sold by AWS" product offering. Once that changes we will update the product listing. I have added this post to our tracking for the initiatives as a place to update with the new information.

Same ... this still seems to be unresolved. I even opened a support ticket asking, who did not know.

AWS support was not able to help with any information about this. One of our VAR who had other Red Hat and AWS contacts found that the solution is now posted, just as of this week. It is not a new AWS EC2 instance template, no "upgrade" or migration needed. You just need to buy the add-on from AWS Marketplace, and make some configuration changes in the OS.

Here is a link to the product offering: https://aws.amazon.com/marketplace/pp/prodview-msu54ql7u6grg?sr=0-2&ref_=beagle&applicationId=AWSMPContessa

Here is a link to how to set it up and enable the repos on existing instances: https://access.redhat.com/articles/rhel-7-els-on-cloud
