Hi Team,

I explain here briefly, I will stop the replication from read replica to Rds mysql 5.7 master db. and take a backup and note the binlog position and restore the backup in rds mysql 8.0. then after by using this sp CALL mysql.rds_set_external_master (); I able to configure the replication from master RDS Mysql 5.7 to RDS mysql 8.0 but my question is I able to create a read replica from read replica so shall i able to do the same thing? like take backup from read replica after stop the replica from read replica to read replica and note the binlog position then from RDS mysql 5.7 read replica to rds mysql 8.0. if not then I want to know a technical explanation.

Thanks & Regards Aravind

It is possible. But why would you not just use the managed service to create a read replica within RDS? You can just create a managed read replica from the 5.7 source and upgrade it to 8.0

  • but mysql.rds_set_external_master () this stored procedure created for master to slave configuration right so if i try to configure the replication from slave to slave how it will work? please briefly explain about the this stored procedure. master user should include in the stored procedure so how i add that master user for read replica?
