HLS audio & mid roll ad insertion

Hello! I reached out to our internal team to ask the generic question about mid and pre-roll for audio HLS streams. The response was: yes; though i'd need to understand better what their viewer experiences are and how they want to control/signal these pre- and mid-rolls. Can you provide additional detail?
