Problems upgrading Python beanstalk from retired Platform version 2.10.8 to 4.0.4

I am trying to upgrade a retired beanstalk Python environment from platform version 2.10.8 to 4.0.4 but I am getting the following error:

Failed Environment update activity. Reason: Configuration validation exception: Invalid option specification (Namespace: 'aws:elasticbeanstalk:container:python:staticfiles', OptionName: '/static/'): Unknown configuration setting.

I realize that this namespace has changed, but is there a way to change a saved configuraiton such that it will upgrade without this error? Is there a procedure documented somewhere to perform this upgrade?
