how to set default region for aws account

Hi Can you please help me here, when I log in to my AWS account my default region is Oregon, how can i choose a different region as a default? so that any resource I. create goes into this default region.

I assume you are referring to the AWS Management Console. The AWS Management Console stores the last region selected in your browser, and unless you reset your browser history or use incognito mode AWS Management Console will default to the last used region, when using the default url namely: https://console.aws.amazon.com. You can change the region selected in the top right of the browser, from the drop down where it currently references Oregon.

Alternatively you can bookmark the URL of the region you prefer.

For example to access Dublin, Ireland Directly: https://eu-west-1.console.aws.amazon.com/console/home?region=eu-west-1 or https://console.aws.amazon.com/console/home?region=eu-west-1

Or to access Cape Town, South Africa https://af-south-1.console.aws.amazon.com/console/home?region=af-south-1 or https://console.aws.amazon.com/console/home?region=af-south-1

AWS Console now support default region.

from any region, go from top right, click your login name, then click "Settings", in next page, click 'Edit' of section "Localisation and default region", then you can set your default region of AWS console.

or you can go through this direct link instead: https://ap-southeast-2.console.aws.amazon.com/settings/home?region=ap-southeast-2#/localization/edit

  • Why isn't this the accepted answer? I found this to be correct. When I login to the console each time, I start in my default region.

Sadly AWS has a cache bug. It does not remember your default region, and will go to us-east1 every time. I have tried many things but to no avail.
