RDS MS SQL server ODBC Linked server connection issues

0

we tried using the SSMS console to add linked servers but the admin user does not have Sys admin access to add linked servers. so we tried using the sp_addlinkedserver from this article: https://aws.amazon.com/blogs/database/implement-linked-servers-with-amazon-rds-for-microsoft-sql-server/ https://aws.amazon.com/premiumsupport/knowledge-center/rds-sql-server-create-linked-server/ but have still been unsuccessful. our linked servers are ODBCs and can connect in localhost easily Please help

Hi,

Thanks for reaching out to us via AWS re:Post - the links that you have referred are the correct ones. sysadmin is not needed to create linked servers here. If you can share more details on the error that would help. Also - this may require an engineer from support to deep dive.

Note-> Linked Server is supported for only SQL Server (EC2 or on-premises) to RDS SQL Server RDS SQL Server to SQL Server (RDS, EC2, or on-premises)

Hope this helps. Have a great rest of the day!

P.S.- maybe this will help https://stackoverflow.com/questions/64617084/sql-server-add-a-linked-server-to-aws-rds-instance

  • Hi,

I think RDS SQL Server now supports the linked servers to Oracle also, right

RDS SQL Server ----> EC2, RDS SQL Server, On-premises SQL server and On-premises Oracle,

Maybe we have limitations like, only Oracle 21 above versions support etc..

    Please check and update
