How to terminate S3 service, avoid charges

0

Hi, all. I'd like to terminate my AWS account (free tier) because I no longer need it, but am concerned about unforeseen charges coming even after that... I used Polly and saved a few things in S3, but I have since deleted those files and deleted all buckets. On my billing summary it says that S3 is still an active service... could I still be billed something for this, even though I have nothing on it, after I delete my AWS account? I don't see a way to actually terminate the S3 service itself. I have already spent hours just trying to find this simple thing out--I'm no programmer--with no clear answer! Ack, help!

Hi,

as long as you have deleted all your buckets in all the regions you used, you should be good to go.

Also you can check this guide to make sure you delete all resources before you close the account, as closing an account does not terminate the resources in it: https://repost.aws/knowledge-center/terminate-resources-account-closure

Hope it clarifies.

  • Thank you!

  • I too have terminated everything I can but billing says EC2 is still accruing costs. I terminated weeks ago with help from an AWS worker, yet here I am searching again how to stop getting charged for what never worked. My "on demand" service never would publish, so I'm still not sure what demand there was. I'm going to contact the CFPB because AWS clearly cannot manage its own services.
