Using Amazon RDS Proxy can help reduce the database load, improve scalability, and increase application availability.
So if you did not use a proxy it`s not a big problem if you have a small load for rds.

I just want to clarify, you are referring to a Multi-AZ Cluster as listed here: https://docs.aws.amazon.com/AmazonRDS/latest/UserGuide/multi-az-db-clusters-concepts.html#multi-az-db-clusters-concepts.Limitations
And not a single RDS instance with Multi-AZ Enabled, or Aurora with instances in other availability zones, correct?
If it is the first, you wouldn't be able to create RDS Proxy regardless, it is not an option at this current time with this configuration. When you create the Target Group it wont list any of the instances. I tested this in my own environment.

Is there a similar solution if we cannot use an RDS proxy? Wouldn't this be a big problem for using lambda? Will using pooling in application code be sufficient?
