desktop items don't load unless i switch WI-FI networks on Remote desktop connection

I get a Microsoft background screen image, but no desktop items unless i switch my WI-FI network

This error happens when i start and switch each network.

Are the wifi networks connected to different upstream connections, and/or different devices?

    Both networks are on same provider and same router

    Any differences in DNS servers handed out by the 2 different networks? What other differences are there between the 2 SSIDs?
