[Announcement] AWS IoT Device Management launches Automated Retry capability for Jobs to improve success rates of large scale deployments

0

AWS IoT Device Management Jobs now supports a new Job execution retry configuration, enabling developers to increase success rates of large scale deployments by ensuring automatic redeployment of failed job executions. Instead of having to manually identify and redeploy to devices that fail, customers can now define a maximum number of retries in the ‘Job Execution Retry Configuration’ for each Job rollout or deployment, along with the criteria to trigger the retry behavior.
Fleet administrators have flexibility to set the Job execution retry configuration, when they create a Job or create a Job Template from the AWS IoT Console and AWS Command Line Interface. https://docs.aws.amazon.com/iot/latest/developerguide/manage-job-cli.html#create-job
https://docs.aws.amazon.com/iot/latest/developerguide/job-templates-cli.html
Additionally, fleet operators and technicians can take advantage of this functionality using Job Templates in AWS IoT Fleet Hub. Customers will not need any additional device-side code changes to take advantage of this capability. For customers who have already built DIY Retry mechanisms, and want to continue using them, they can use Jobs the same way they do today. There is no change in Pricing, it is based on the total number of Job Executions – whether they succeed or fail. https://aws.amazon.com/iot-device-management/pricing/

This feature is available in all AWS Regions where AWS IoT Device Management Jobs is available. https://aws.amazon.com/about-aws/global-infrastructure/regional-product-services/ Go here https://docs.aws.amazon.com/iot/latest/developerguide/jobs-configurations.html to understand how this capability works together with Jobs rollout, timeout, and abort configurations.
