Cloudformation doesn't properly return non-ascii characters

0

This is more of a bug report. I don't know if this is the right place to put it, an issue has already been created on the cloudformation roadmap github, but it has had no activity in almost 9 months, so I figured i would open a post here as well.

Using the aws-sdk, the http api, the aws cli and the aws cloudformation console, the GetTemplate action does not return non-ascii characters properly (e.g. æøå becomes ???). This results in invalid local comparisons between the cloudformation template in the cloud and the template on the local system. Fx when using the aws-cdk diff functionality, see this issue for more information.

If this is not the right place to report this bug, feel free to close it.

  • My guess is that even if AWS will fix this they will go for the quick option: disallow non-ASCII in CloudFormation.

Hello,

Thank you for providing your valuable feedback on the service. As you have mentioned since there is already an open issue on "cloudformation-coverage-roadmap", it will be great if you can follow-up and comment further on the open issue. Those git-hub issues are regularly monitored by Service team.

While I am unable to comment on if/when this feature/bug may get released, I request you to keep an eye on our What's New and Blog pages for any new feature announcements.

Thanks.
