Trying to access s3 bucket using postman app and fix AccessDenied error

Question

Hi all, I am a newbie getting started with AWS S3 buckets I created a bucket: test1 (public) I have created a bucket: test2 (block public access) I created a policy and test user for test2 bucket

Using postman app :

I was able to do a simple get for public bucket like:

http://s3.myregion.amazonaws.com/test1/TESTPIC.png Now I am trying to do a get with my test2 bucket with (block public access) now I get :

<Code>AccessDenied</Code> <Message>Access Denied</Message>

So somehow I need to send some credentials with postman to AWS to allow access. Any idea how to do this?

Answer

You'll need to [sign API requests](https://docs.aws.amazon.com/general/latest/gr/signing_aws_api_requests.html) that require authorization and include this signature in the `Authorization` header. Postman supports creating this signature for you: https://learning.postman.com/docs/sending-requests/authorization/#aws-signature

You might also want to look at presigned URLs, which once generated will allow you to access the file without needing to sign each request: https://docs.aws.amazon.com/AmazonS3/latest/userguide/ShareObjectPreSignedURL.html
