CloudWatch Insights not parsing JSON from CloudFront function logs

If you print JSON from CloudFront functions using console.log, CloudWatch Logs Insights doesn't parse it as JSON. CloudWatch Logs does parse the JSON fine and logs emitted with the Embedded Metrics Format from CloudFront functions do publish metrics. Can the CloudWatch Logs Insights parser be modified to work with the CloudFront functions log format and request ids?
