Please see this link for the Dolby Vision input requirements when creating a Dolby Vision output. https://docs.aws.amazon.com/mediaconvert/latest/ug/dolby-vision.html Though the input detailed may match these, the output does not seem to be a Dolby Vision. In this case, it appears that color space conversion between DV and SDR may not be supported. HDR and HLG to SDR are supported.
Is your question relating to using the Elemental Live encoder? Have you tried other Color Correction settings, Force 601 or Force SDR 2020? Do they provide a better experience? You may want to look a the following link https://docs.aws.amazon.com/elemental-live/latest/ug/about-color-metadata.html
Do you know what format of Dolby Vision is the source? If it is a delivery format, then those are not made to be converted back to SDR. If the source is a mezzanine sourcing format, they it would be good to know what encoding format is being used.
Apologies for late reply. The input video is jpeg2000 , 12bit rgb, P3D65 colorspace, with frame interleaved dolby vision metadata, in an MXF container.
Can you confirm that the source DolbyVision is either Profile 5 or Profile 8.1 What is the out formats that are being created?
No, the source is neither profile 5 nor profile 8.1. As far as I know Dolby Vision Profiles specify formats for end-user deliverables, not for mezzanines.
Regarding the the out-formats, I transcode to h264 in an mp4 container.

No, aws mediaconvert. I've updated the question for clarity. I will try conversion to other color spaces to see what the outcome might be, although i need my output to be rec 709.
