GetEntitlements API response for active and cancel scenarios for pay-as-you-go "Usage based pricing" model

We have test offer created for pay-as-you-go "Usage based pricing" model. I subscribed to this offer and when I invoke GetEntitlements API, I get a response back with no entitlements. Is this the expected response? I canceled the subscription and invoked GetEntitlements API again and I get the same response back with no entitlements. Is this the expected response?

If this is the expected behavior, how will I be able to determine whether the subscription is active or canceled?
