It is hard to answer without code samples and giving more details.

I'm constantly getting response time **more than 1000ms** even in a simple query(**average 1200ms**) in ```VTL resolvers```. But in ```Lambda```, by default configuration I'm getting average **700ms** and after changing the configuration I can achieve **less than 100ms latency** in ```Lambda resolver```.

 **We can say ```VTL``` is slower than ```Lambda``` !**
