Hi Sanjula De Alwis, Here is what I found which could help you figure out what could be the possible cause of the problem. https://docs.aws.amazon.com/AWSEC2/latest/UserGuide/TroubleshootingInstancesConnecting.html It would be helpful if you could also share the ERROR MESSAGE you receive while trying to connect.
I also wish to request you to please do share the solution with us if you happen to solve it.
Thank you.
Best, Sonam
ssh: connect to host *************.compute-1.amazonaws.com port 22: Operation timed out
Were you able to connect before or is this the first time you are trying connect to your Ubuntu EC2 Instance?
no this is the first time. both GUI and SSH not working
It worked. added SSH for inbound and all traffic to outbound for ACL. Thanks for the help
I am glad :) Good day!
Thank you for the instant response Sanjula. From many possible reasons behind the problem, please try these:
- Check if you are using a** secured network connection**
- Plese note that the hostname can change if you reboot or stop/start your instances. So please remember to use the right hostname - visible in the description of your instance each time you ssh.
- https://repost.aws/questions/QUBEjjYuGdQSyvagrNJdOI_A/cannot-connect-to-ubuntu-instance-connection-timed-out Post link of a similar issue. Going through the checklist again patiently could help. :) Especially IGW and the settings for ROUTE TABLE.
You might try using the data on your phone for your internet. My ISP was causing a problem like this and I accidentally found this to work. And then, someone explain why this works.

Are you having public IP assigned to that VM?
