General troubleshooting of that error is as in the following document.

That error also occurs when Lightsail is under heavy load.
It can also occur when SSH stops due to some other reason.
If a snapshot remains, it is easiest to restore from that snapshot.

It almost worked. I utilized the solution under "An OS-level firewall is blocking SSH port access" that advised creating a new instance. I can now connect to the new instance via ssh.
However, I'm now getting this error in terminal: bitnami@ip-172-26-4-79:~$ sudo chmod -R 755 /opt/bitnami/apache/htdocs sudo: /usr/bin/sudo must be owned by uid 0 and have the setuid bit set
What should I do to fix it?
