AWS S3 Glacier Deep Archive daily upload

0

Hi, I would like some assistance regarding the storage duration policy on Glacier Deep Archive Tier. Pardon my math in case I did a mistake, but is there a more cost effective solution in case I would like to make daily uploads? Let's say I have 12TB of data that I would upload every evening to the same bucket over a year. That would mean that every next day I would have a commitment of aditional 179 days, and if we extrapolate that to the end of the year that would be 364 (day) * 179 (commited days left) = 65156 total commited days during one year. That would be approx. 2,172 months, and if we multiply that with the average monthly cost (22 USD) we will get a hefty total debt of 47784USD in the end.

If that indeed is correct, is there a more sensible way of storing 12Tb of data which would be updated daily?

I think your calculation is out a little however Glacier Deep Archive would not be the right solution for data you are going to change on a daily basis. You will find it much cheaper to store this data on S3 Standard where you will pay $0.023 per GB\month for 12TB Data Storage and can update or delete this data as frequently as you need without incurring any early deletion charges.

Hello.

Your analysis is on the right track. AWS Glacier Deep Archive is designed for long-term storage, but there are a few factors to consider. The Glacier Deep Archive tier has a 180-day minimum storage duration policy. If you retrieve or delete any data before 180 days, you're charged for the entire 180 days. In my opinion, you can use Intelligent tiering and you can configure life cycle policies to transition data to Glacier Deep Archive.
