Force-remove AWS Control Tower account

We mistakenly closed an account without first unmanaging it from Control Tower and now it's stuck in Control Tower and preventing further operations. Is there a way to force-remove this account?

Given that the account has already been closed and can't be reactivated back, your primary course of action is to reach out directly to AWS Support for assistance. AWS Support may have access to tools and procedures that are not available to end users, which can help resolve situations like this.

  • You can reopen an account within 90 days of closing it.

Have you tried moving the account to a different OU or removing it from the ORG?
