You need to check for few things :

  • Most of the cost is under VPC, you need to check in details for the related resources. Beware of NAT gateways and un-allocated EIPs.
  • You want to add a region dimension in the Cost explorer to understand which regions these costs are coming from. The snapshots suggest that you are looking only at one region.
  • You might want to look at your daily cost chart to see the impact on when the costs have changed (like after shutting down the instances, etc.)

  • I don't have neither NAT gateways nor un-allocated EIPs in my VPC. But I have ENIs which I'm not able to delete. Which permission is required. I have access to the root account but I'm not the one who created the resources.

Failed to detach 3 network interfaces Details eni-060d89e8510fe4be5 - API error: "You do not have permission to access the specified resource." eni-0c6132cd48e10ebaa - API error: "You do not have permission to access the specified resource." eni-08ada1710fa287118 - API error: "The network interface at device index 0 and networkCard index 0 cannot be detached."

This resource are created under a different acount. I have to assume the role to perform the detach and delete actions

  • This means that these ENI's are attached to a resource. Did you check for Shared VPCs or other shared resources in your account (Resource Access Manager) ?
