Hi Anusha,

This generally happens when there is an association of ENI with existing resource. You can either first delete the associated resources or detach the association from the ENI and then delete.

Here is the re:Post Knowledge Center Article, which has step by step guide, how to delete ENI.

Please follow the steps, you should be able to delete the ENI.

Additionally take a look at this re:Post thread, this may also help you where similar discussion happened.

Here is the command reference:

  aws ec2 delete-network-interface --network-interface-id <eni-name>

  aws ec2 describe-network-interfaces --filters 'Name=vpc-id,Values='$vpc | grep NetworkInterfaceId

Second command would provide you the resources with which this ENI is attached.

Additional Reference:

Hope you find this helpful.

Comment here if you have additional questions, happy to help.

Specifically, Which kind of ENI you trying to detach/remove from VPC? its totally depend on what kind of service/resources behind this ENI. for example if its related with some 3rd party SaaS like service you should first contact those 3rd party organization before rid of this.
