Change master admin email

0

I set up my AWS account with an email address I no longer have access to. For example, joe@abc-startup.com. I can still log in without an issue, but notifications from AWS are going to that email address which hasn't been reachable for almost a year now. I'd like to switch it to joe@gmail.com and remove all references to joe@abc-startup.com.

I read somewhere that the process involves IAM, but it is not clear how to do that.

I also read somewhere that the process involves making changes in AWS Organizations > AWS Accounts settings page, but that is also not very clear.

How do I switch the master admin email??

fwiw, joe@gmail.com happens to also be what I use to access my amazon.com account.

Hello, in order to change the root admin email you should log into the account as a root user and follow the steps from this article: https://aws.amazon.com/premiumsupport/knowledge-center/change-email-address/.

  • Thanks, but the issue I'm having here is that the gmail account I'd like to use is running into the following issues.

When using the link above, and entering joe@gmail.com I get this error:

This email address is already associated with an AWS account. Try again or sign in with that account.

Not sure how that happened, but okay if I try to log in to AWS with that joe@gmail.com email address:

    Amazon Web Services Sign In
Your AWS account was permanently closed because it was suspended for more than 90 days.

You can't reopen this account or use it to access any AWS services. In addition, all content in the account was deleted.

To create and activate a new account, first sign out of the console and then choose Create a new AWS account from the AWS homepage. You must specify a different email address than the email address that was used for the permanently closed account.

    Contact AWS Support.

If you intend to use the same gmail account, you could attempt to change the root email to joe+1@gmail.com. No two AWS accounts can have same root email.

In general, appending a + (plus) sign followed by a number or characters to an existing email account acts as a pointer to the original email account. This is the typical behavior of email servers and not specific to AWS.
