I need to find a user in Cognito by email address. There is a ListUsers operation which supports filtering by email field. I wanted to confirm that this operation uses index and not scan, and will be performant on user pools with significant number of users.

You are correct that to list users by email address in Amazon Cognito using the AWS CLI, you can use the following command which is using an index.

aws cognito-idp list-users --filter "email = 'example@email.com'"
