Amazon Workspaces without AD connector

Question

A customer wants to use Amazon workspaces, but claims to not be able to use it without the AD connector (the cost of said would make the customer not choose AWS, since the AD connector is considerably more expensive than what he would be paying for his workspaces).

Is he forced to use the AD connector or is there a possibility to use workspaces without it?

Amazon WorkSpaces pricing includes the use of AWS Directory Services for Simple AD and AD Connector (where available).

So your customer won't be paying extra for using AD Connector. For your other question, the customer has to use AD Connector, Simple AD or Microsoft AD.

As side note: Simple AD and AD Connector are made available to you free of cost to use with WorkSpaces,WorkMail, or WorkDocs. If there are no WorkSpaces being used with your Simple AD or AD Connector for 30 consecutive days, you may be charged for this directory as per the AWS Directory Service pricing terms.
