[Announcement] RTMP Support Discontinuing on December 31, 2020

0

AWS has a long history where we do not deprecate AWS service functionality unless for security reasons or under unusual circumstances. In 2017, Adobe announced the end-of-life for Flash will be December 31, 2020. In addition to Adobe, many of the most widely used internet browsers are also discontinuing Flash support in 2020. As a result, Amazon CloudFront will no longer support Adobe Flash Media Server and will be deprecating Real-Time Messaging Protocol (RTMP) distributions by December 31, 2020.

On December 31, 2020 all CloudFront RTMP distributions will be deleted and CloudFront will deny requests made to those previously existing endpoints. All RTMP workloads should begin migrating to a standard CloudFront Web distribution and use one of several HTTP streaming protocols such as HTTP Live Streaming (HLS), Dynamic Adaptive Streaming over HTTP (DASH), Microsoft Smooth Streaming (MSS), or HTTP Dynamic Streaming (HDS).

To learn more about resources available to help migrate from RTMP to HTTP streaming, please refer to CloudFront's documentation on using Web distributions for streaming live and on-demand video and other useful tutorials available . During your migration, you can re-create your Web distribution to have similar cache configuration settings as your RTMP distribution.

If you require support to change an apex domain from one distribution to another without disruption to your traffic, or have any other questions please create a support case with AWS Support.
