Too many images error for Llama

0

I'm using the Test Knowledge Base in the console. When asking a question using the LLama 4 Maverick, I get this error:

Error Fetching The model returned the following errors: Too many input images: 4, max allowed: 3 (Service: bedrock, Status Code: 400, Request ID: a04d689e-304d-4975-acfe-25a1312b1121)

Anthropic models work OK.

Are the limits for different models documented somewhere?

The error you're encountering is specific to the Llama 4 Maverick model in Amazon Bedrock, which has a limit of 3 images per request. This limitation is part of the model's design constraints.

Different foundation models in Amazon Bedrock have varying limitations regarding multimodal capabilities. For Llama 4 models specifically:

  • Llama 4 Maverick is a natively multimodal model with 128 experts and 400 billion total parameters that can process both text and images
  • It supports image understanding in English only, while its text capabilities span 12 languages
  • The model has a maximum input limit of 3 images per request

Your error message indicates you're trying to process 4 images in a single request, which exceeds this limit. To resolve this issue, you'll need to reduce the number of images in your request to 3 or fewer.

The multimodal capabilities and limitations of different models in Amazon Bedrock, including image processing limits, are documented in the AWS documentation for each specific model. For the most accurate and up-to-date information on model limitations, you should refer to the Amazon Bedrock documentation for the specific model you're using.
