I want to change my AWS account name.
Short description
Update your AWS account name through the AWS Billing and Management console.
You must have root user credentials to change your AWS account name. An AWS management account can change the account name for its member accounts.
Note: For information on how to change your Account Alias, see Using an alias for your AWS account ID.
To change the name of an AWS Identity and Access Management (IAM) user, see Renaming an IAM user.
Resolution
To change your account name, complete the following steps:
- Use your root user credentials to sign in to the AWS account that you want to modify.
- Choose your name from the navigation bar, and then select Account.
- Next to Account details, choose Edit account name, email, and password.
Note: If you aren't signed in as the root user, you won’t see the Edit option.
- Choose Actions, and then choose Change account name.
- Enter the new AWS account name, and then choose Save.
Note: This method doesn't work if your AWS Organizations has service control policies (SCPs) that restrict access to the aws-portal. Instead, choose Security credentials in the AWS Management Console. Also, make sure that your SCPs don't restrict iam:UpdateAccountName.
The updated account name can take up to 4 hours to appear in the AWS Management Console.
Note: A name change of your AWS account doesn't affect any AWS Service you use in your account.
If you are signed into an AWS management account, complete the following steps to change a member account's account name:
- Sign in to the AWS Organizations console.
Note: You must sign in as an IAM user or as the root user in order to change an account name.
- On the AWS accounts page, select the member account you want to change.
- Select Account Details.
- Select Actions, and then select Update account name.
- Enter the new AWS account name, and then choose Save.
