I need more information to resolve issues with sending email messages in Amazon Cognito with default settings compared to Amazon Simple Email Service (Amazon SES).

Resolution

To determine whether Amazon Cognito sent an email message to a user's account, review the user's email configuration.

In all scenarios, start by checking your email inbox and spam folder to verify that you didn't receive an email message from Amazon Cognito.

Your troubleshooting steps depend on your email configuration in the Amazon Cognito console on the Messaging tab.

If you choose Send email with Cognito in your setup, then Amazon Cognito uses an AWS owned account for email messages. With this setting, users don't have visibility into send metrics for that account. Users can open an AWS Support case to request access to Amazon SES to check the status of email messages to certain addresses.

If you choose Send email with Amazon SES - Recommended in your setup, then users are actively using a verified email account in Amazon SES. Users can view Amazon CloudWatch logs to see if an email message was sent. When the sent email message is confirmed, users can explore other information in their accounts. To learn more about the different errors you might see in an Amazon SES CloudWatch log, see Amazon SES email sending errors.
