How do I optimize the performance of my Amazon EBS volumes?

Make sure to choose an Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2) instance type that supports Amazon EBS optimization.

To improve the performance of your EBS volumes, take the following actions:

• For a list of best practices, see Amazon EBS performance tips.
• Use AWS Trusted Advisor to evaluate your environment for improvements that you can make to optimize performance of your EBS volumes.
• Before you use an EBS volume that's restored from a snapshot, initialize the volume.
  Note: To quickly restore a snapshot, you can use fast snapshot restore.
• Use Amazon CloudWatch to monitor EBS volume performance and to identify performance bottlenecks at the operating system (OS) level.
