When I try to publish a Human Intelligence Task (HIT) on the Amazon Mechanical Turk Requester website, I get an error about my credit limit.
Resolution
When you sign up to use Amazon Mechanical Turk, you receive a $0.02 credit as a security mechanism. The credit stays in your AWS account, and you can apply it when you publish a HIT on the Mechanical Turk website. However, before you can publish a HIT, you must complete the following prerequisites:
Link a payment method to your account, and complete your identity verification by phone. For more information, see How do I create and activate a new AWS account?
If you don't link a payment method to your account, then the first time you try to publish a HIT, the request will be denied. You receive the following error message:
"You have exceeded your monthly credit limit, please contact us to request a limit increase on your AWS MTurk account for your expected usage, or see our FAQs to learn more." Then, you are prompted to contact customer service or use the AWS Service Quota form to request a quota increase.
Provide AWS with your total projected monthly spend amount for Mechanical Turk so that AWS can increase your spending quota. It's a best practice to request the maximum projected amount, rather than submit a quota increase request for individual projects.
To submit a quota increase, complete the following steps:
- Sign in to the account that you used to register your Amazon Mechanical Turk (MTurk) Requester account.
- Navigate to the Service Quotas console.
- In the navigation pane, choose Manage quotas.
- Under View quotas, search for Mechanical Turk.
- Choose your quota, and then enter the amount that you want to request.
- Provide the justification for your request if needed, and then submit the request.
AWS sends you an email to confirm whether your request is approved.
