I closed my AWS account, but I want to reopen it and continue to use AWS services.

Resolution

Important: For closed accounts that you linked to an organization in AWS Organizations, use the organization's management account to submit the request to reopen the account.

You can't reopen a permanently account closure

Your account permanently closes after 90 days.

You can't reopen a permanently closed account, and AWS deletes the content of permanently closed accounts.

Also, you must fully pay outstanding balances and provide information that's specified on the invoice within 30 days of the account closure.

Reopen a closed account within 90 days

If you closed your account within the last 90 days, then complete the following steps to contact AWS Support to reopen your account:

  1. Sign in to your account as the root user.
Note: You must sign in as a root user to reopen an account.
  2. Open the AWS Billing and Cost Management console.
  3. Check that you associated a valid default payment method with your account.
  4. Open a support case, and then complete the following steps:
In the Create case section, choose Account and billing support.
    Under Service, choose Account.
    Under Category, choose Account Reinstatement.
Under Severity, choose the appropriate severity.
  5. Choose Additional Information, and then enter a brief description of the issue.
  6. Choose Solve Now or Contact Us.
  7. Choose Contact Us, and then choose how you want AWS to contact you.

Note: If you can't access your account to open a support case, then use the General support for account or billing form to contact AWS Support.

Check your account information and resources after AWS reopens your account

Note: After AWS reopens your account, it can take up to 24 hours for all services to activate.

After AWS reopens your account, complete the following steps:

  1. Check that you received an email to confirm that your services are active.
  2. Sign in to the AWS Management Console.
  3. Verify that your account and payment methods are correct, and update outdated information.
Note: Be sure to check your email address, phone number, account name, and your mailing address.

Also, check the following resources:

Note: Resources in AWS China (Beijing) and AWS China (Ningxia) Regions are subject to the policies of the Sinnet (Beijing) and NWCD (Ningxia) operating partner policies. Account closure procedures might take longer in China than in other AWS Regions.

For billing and administration, AWS retains service attributes as long as they're needed. To learn more about account information retention, see Privacy Notice.
