I want to use Amazon Simple Notification Service (Amazon SNS) to get notifications when my emails bounce with Amazon Simple Email Service (Amazon SES).
Resolution
Prerequisite: Complete the Amazon SES verification process for the identity (domain or email address) that requires bounce notifications. To get bounce notifications across identities, use Amazon SES event publishing.
To receive bounce notifications, complete the following steps:
- Use the Amazon SNS console to create a topic. On the Create topic page, in the Details section, for Topic, select Standard.
- Subscribe your endpoint to the topic. For Protocol, select Email-JSON.
- From your endpoint's email inbox, open the subscription confirmation email from Amazon SNS with the subject line AWS Notification - Subscription Confirmation.
- In the subscription confirmation email, open the URL specified as SubscribeURL to confirm your subscription.
Note: It might take a few minutes for your notification settings to take effect.
- Use the Amazon SES console to configure bounce notifications for your SNS topic.
Use the Amazon SES mailbox simulator to test your bounce notifications
Note: Bounces from the mailbox simulator address don't count as part of your AWS account's bounce metrics.
Use the Amazon SES mailbox simulator to send a test email. From the dropdown list, under Scenario, select Bounce. Complete the rest of the form with the values that you want for the test email. Then, from your endpoint's email inbox, confirm that you have an email with the subject line AWS Notification Message that contains the bounce notification.
