I want to move my Amazon Simple Notification Service (Amazon SNS) SMS account from sandbox to production access to send messages to unverified phone numbers.

Resolution

By default, new Amazon SNS SMS accounts start in the SMS sandbox. You can only send messages to verified destination phone numbers from the sandbox. To send SMS messages to unverified phone numbers for production use cases, request production access through AWS Support.

Request production access

To request production access, see Moving from the AWS End User Messaging SMS MMS and Voice sandbox to production. After AWS Support receives your request, AWS Support provides an initial response within 24 hours and might contact you to request additional information.

Note: If your AWS account is in multiple AWS Regions, then you must submit a support request for each Region.

Verify production access

After AWS Support approves your request, complete the following steps to verify your account status:

  1. Open the Amazon SNS console.
  2. In the navigation pane, choose Text messaging (SMS).
  3. Under Account information, verify that the Status shows Production.
