I want to turn off the "AWS_VPN_SINGLE_TUNNEL_NOTIFICATION" messages that I receive when my Site-to-Site Virtual Private Network (VPN) connection doesn't use both tunnels.

Resolution

Only AWS Support can deactivate single tunnel notifications. Complete the following actions to open a support case:
Note: It's a best practice to configure High Availability Mode on both tunnels, even if notifications are turned off. For more information, see Resilience in AWS Site-to-Site VPN.

  1. Open the AWS Support Center.
  2. Choose Create case.
  3. Select Technical Support.
  4. For Type, choose VPN, and then for Item, choose General Guidance.
  5. For Reason category, select Service Request, and then for Reason code, choose Opt-Out Single tunnel/Tunnel Replacement notification.
  6. In the Case description section, enter the following details in the empty fields that correspond with the text:
    Subject
Deactivate the AWS_VPN_SINGLE_TUNNEL_NOTIFICATION for Site-to-Site VPN.
    Description
I want to deactivate the AWS_VPN_SINGLE_TUNNEL_NOTIFICATION for my Site-to-Site VPN connections. I understand that this will apply to all VPN connections within the specified AWS Region.
  7. Select the Region where notifications must be deactivated.
Note: If you turn off notifications for a Region with multiple VPN connections, then you won't receive notifications for all connections in that Region.
  8. Choose Submit.

After AWS Support reviews your request, single tunnel notifications for the Region that you specified will deactivate. The AWS Support team provides an initial response within 24 hours of a request. To minimize the approval time, provide all the required information with your request.
